The right of succession between the spouses lapses. The marriage is not over, so they cannot enter into a new marriage. The spouses can jointly request an abandonment of the legal separation. The couple can also jointly request a divorce, and thereby conclude the marriage, after six months having passed from the issuance of a permit for legal separation.
