Is there an obligation to pay child maintenance?

During a legal separation/divorce proceedings or a cohabitation dissolution, a decision must be made regarding the support of the child. A contract may be made for child maintenance or the parents can declare an agreement regarding the support of their child. An agreement about not fulfulling the parents obligation to support their child cannot be made. A child has the right for support from both parents. Child maintenance is intended to provide food, clothing and accommodation for the child.
