What are the roles and responsibilities of the permit holder and the responsible person for a controlled burning permit?

The permit holder for controlled burning must:

  • Notify neighbours about the permit and the planned burning schedule (in writing - for example, via email).

  • Notify the Environment Agency in writing about the area of the burned land within a month of the burn.

The permit holder or the responsible person for the controlled burn must be present during the burn. Extreme caution must be exercised during the controlled burn to avoid causing unnecessary disturbance or inconvenience.

Further information on permits for controlled burning of dry grass can be found here.
