District Commissioners: Business Licenses
How are restaurants classified for operating licenses?
Restaurants are classified into three categories:
Category 1: Establishments without alcohol service. (No district commissioner's license is required for a Category I restaurant)
Category 2: Small-scale alcohol-serving establishments where the activities are not likely to cause disturbances in the neighborhood, such as with loud music, and places that do not require significant supervision and/or law enforcement.
Category 3: Large-scale alcohol-serving establishments, such as those with loud music, and places that require more supervision and/or law enforcement.
Here you can find more detailed information about the categories and types of restaurants.
