About the Social Insurance Administration
The Social Insurance Administration is under the auspices of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour and is one of the largest service institutions in Iceland. The Administration does not establish laws or regulations or determine the amounts of compensation.
The Social Insurance Administration operates under the Social Security Act, No. 100/2007, and the Social Assistance Act, No. 99/2007.

Role
The role of the SIA is to enforce the Social Security Act, the Social Assistance Act and the Act on the Affairs of Chronically Ill Children, as well as to perform other tasks assigned to the SIA at any given time.

The Social Insurance Administration also operates according to regulations from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour.
