District Commissioners: Legal guardianship
How is the deprivation of legal capacity carried out?
If necessary, and if other, less severe measures in the form of assistance have been exhausted, it is permissible by court order to temporarily deprive an individual of legal capacity.
It is often best to seek assistance from a lawyer or social services when processing a request to the court.
If an individual is deprived of personal autonomy, financial management, or both, the district commissioner will appoint a legal guardian for them.
