Kilometer fee for electric, hydrogen and plug-in hybrid cars
Temporary importation of vehicles
From 1 July 2024, travelers bringing cars registered abroad will have to pay a fee.
Fixed fee
A fixed fee is charged to all cars upon arrival in Iceland:
ISK 10,000 for electric cars and hydrogen cars
ISK 5,000 for plug-in hybrid cars
The importer pays the fee to the carrier who returns it to the treasury.
Kilometer fee
For stays exceeding 30 days, you will pay a fee based on the distance driven in Iceland. A reading of the car's odometer must be logged at arrival and departure.
The fixed fee paid on arrival is deducted from the kilometer fee at settlement. The kilometer fee will never be lower than the fixed fee.
