Child support payers

Attention! The District Commissioner hereby requests that salary deductions be temporarily stopped as of November 1st, 2024. New claims will be made in cases where salary deductions are to be restarted, but in general, employees will receive claims at their home bank.

The amount of child support from 1 January 2024 is 46.147 kr.

Child support can be paid into account 0161-26-49 kt. 660914-0990. The receipt should be sent to medlag@syslumenn.is.

The District Commissioner can require the employer to withhold up to 50% of the total salary monthly. A claim is sent to the employer, which they must follow. It states the amount to be withheld from the salary at the next payment after the date of the claim and monthly after that. A payment is to be made to the District Commissioner within 15 days of the wage payment.

It is important that a return form is filled in, stating exactly which employees are involved, which salary period and the amount deducted from the salary. The return article should be sent to the email address medlag@syslumenn.is.

If the employer has withheld part of the salary but neglects to return it to the District Commissioner, the representatives of the payers can incur criminal liability according to the General Penal Code, as this is considered embezzlement.
