Caregivers
For the elderly
Sjónstöðin provides advice to relatives and staff of social services and institutions such as nursing homes and care facilities. All advice is individualized and given in consultation with the person involved. Sjónstöðin's advisors can visit homes and institutions upon request. An assessment of accessibility is made, and suggestions for improvements are provided to enhance independence in daily activities.
Advice on combined vision and hearing impairment is offered, and there is good cooperation with institutions such as the Heyrnar- og talmeinastöð Íslands, Samskiptamiðstöð heyrnarlausra og heyrnarskertra, social services, and advocacy organizations such as Blindrafélagið.
All blind and visually impaired elderly individuals are offered assessments, training, and the provision of assistive devices such as computer-related devices and programs, recreational material in Braille, glasses, magnifiers, audio players, and white canes.
