Visit of the Minister of Health to SAk

Minister of Health Alma Möller, Member of Parliament for the Northeast Constituency Eydís Ásbjörnsdóttir, and the Minister’s Assistant Jón Magnús Kristjánsson visited SAk today. Hildigunnur Svavarsdóttir, CEO of SAk, and Minister Alma Möller described the visit as highly enjoyable.

Enhanced Services for Kidney Patients at SAk

A considerable number of people living in Northeast Iceland have until now had to travel south over the highlands to see a nephrologist. On a monthly basis, it is estimated that 20-25 individuals have had to make this journey for that purpose. Now, preparations have officially begun to ensure that, going forward, nephrologists from Landspítali will visit SAk every six weeks for two days at a time.

Right Service in the Right Place – Report of the Working Group

The working group, which has examined the status of one of the key objectives of the health policy—to provide the right service in the right place—has submitted its report with findings and recommendations to Minister of Health, Alma D. Möller. Gylfi Ólafsson, chair of the working group, along with other representatives, presented the report to the minister in a meeting at the ministry this week. Helgi Þór Leifsson was a member of the working group, nominated by SAk.

Annual Quality Audit of SAk

Three representatives from the international accreditation company Det Norske Veritas (DNV-GL) are spending three and a half days this week at SAk to audit the operations in accordance with DNV and ISO9001 standards. A large number of SAk staff are involved in the project, as the certification auditors conduct their work across various parts of the institution.

Statement from the Icelandic Air Ambulance Center Regarding the Closure of Runways at Reykjavík Airport

On January 10th, significant restrictions on air traffic at Reykjavík Airport were announced. These restrictions involve the closure of two runways during nighttime due to the impact of vegetation on approach and departure surfaces. The Icelandic Air Ambulance Center expresses serious concerns regarding these restrictions, as unrestricted access for air ambulances to Reykjavík Airport is, in many cases, a matter of life and death for critically ill and injured patients from large parts of the country.
