Land and forests are advertising summer jobs

Land and Forest Iceland is recruiting research assistants for summer fieldwork, encompassing ecological monitoring and research in drylands, wetlands, and forests to support Iceland's climate accounting. We also require summer personnel for fencing projects in Northeast Iceland.

From Plant to Plank – The Annual Icelandic Forest Science Conference 2025

The 2025 Icelandic Annual Forest Science Conference, Fagráðstefna skógræktar, will be held at Hotel Hallormsstaður on March 26th and 27th. The first day will focus on current advancements in forest planning, planting, management, and harvesting techniques in Iceland and internationally. A call for presentations and posters has been issued for the second day of the conference.

Locally sourced timber for the River Baths

The River Baths geothermal spa currently under development at Laugarás in Biskupstungur will by request utilise locally sourced timber for the construction. Nine batches of premium-grade spruce from a recently harvested Haukadalur forest plot have been supplied by Land and Forest Iceland after being meticulously processed at the Institute's Thjórsárdalur sawmill.

Iceland's contributions to international desertification control efforts.

Two case studies from Iceland have just been added to the toolbox of the UN Convention on Desertification Control, UNCDD. It shares Iceland’s experiences from the Hekla Forest project and a project east of Þorlákshöfn where frequent sandstorms have been controlled.

Thirty years of land reclamation efforts

The Land Reclamation Association of Biskupstungur (Landgræðslufélag Biskupstungna) celebrated its 30th anniversary last year. Early initiatives focused on experimental hay bale erosion control techniques to stabilise vegetation ridges and promote new growth. Foresters' wishes for an e-service portal

Land and Forest Iceland (LOGS) is pleased to announce the commencement of afforestation and shelterbelt project application acceptance via our online service portal. A dedicated digital mailbox on island.is centralises applicant communication and key project data, streamlining project request administration. The application deadline is January 31st.

Icelandic Climate Initiative Meets High Global Demands

The Álfabrekka afforestation project in Grímsnes- og Grafningshreppur has received certification from Enviance Services Private Limited, an internationally accredited certification agency. This marks the first Skógarkolefni Forest Carbon project to achieve such international recognition, confirming its compliance with ISO 14064-2:2019 and adherence to leading global climate project standards.
