Courses
Those who have an approved application for unemployment benefits can attend various courses free of charge. Counsellors at each service centre register participants for the courses. Registration is binding and there is an 80% attendance requirement. Participants must also meet conditions for active participation in the courses.
It is not guaranteed that a course will start, but depends on whether there is sufficient participation.
It is also possible to find courses of your choice and apply for a study grant.
Those studying at an upper secondary school or university must apply for a study contract if they are applying for unemployment benefits during their studies.
Icelandic courses
Foreign jobseekers registered for unemployment benefits are entitled to two Icelandic language courses per year free of charge. Upon registration for an Icelandic language course jobseekers should include information on their status with The Directorate of Labour to the relevant language school. Information on available Icelandic language courses can be found in the drop down list below.
