Handling of personal data

The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration (IRCA), Suðurhraun 3, 201 Garðabær, is the controller of personal data processing for the project. The website Ísland.is is operated by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, Arnarhvoll at Lindargata 101 Reykjavík. The processing of personal data on loftbru.island.is is carried out on the basis of a processing agreement between the ministry and the IRCA.

Below is information about the processing of personal data for the project. Further information can also be found in the Privacy Policy of the Government of Iceland,  and in the IRCA's Privacy Policy.

Personal data processed and purpose of processing

When you apply for the Loftbrú discount, information about you is retrieved from Registers Iceland, such as your ID number, name, address, date of birth, year of birth, names of children, custody of children, family number, date of birth and year of birth of children, and stored on the website. If you request the discount by mail, the Act on Public Archives also applies.

When booking airfare, an airline's booking engine automatically retrieves information about you from www.island.is, that is, your name, gender, date and year of birth and the name, gender, date and year of birth of children if the booking is also for children. When a fare is purchased, the airline transmits information about the purchased flight to www.loftbru.island.is, i.e. information about the flight leg, booking date, flight date, discount amount, fare amount, gender, age and postal code of the discount recipient.

This information about you is processed to process your application for a Loftbrú discount and to directly deliver the subsidy to which you are entitled into the payment process.

Disclosure of personal information and authorization for processing

Information about the flight will not be shared and will only be available to you at loftbru.island.is. However, the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration (IRCA) receives certain non-personally identifiable information from loftbru.island.is in order to have an overview of the use and distribution of the discount. You or your child may then be looked up in Registers Iceland to verify your or your child's rights according to the terms of use for Loftbrú.

The project itself is based on an Aviation Policy that was introduced in the Transport Plan according to the parliamentary resolution proposal on the Transport Plan for the years 2020-2034 and the parliamentary resolution proposal on the Transport Plan for the years 2020-2024, which were approved by the Althingi Parliament in the summer of 2020. The IRCA was assigned to carry out the project on the basis of Item 2, Article 7 of Act No. 120/2012 on the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration, which stipulates that it shall oversee the granting of subsidies for public transport.
