Recalculation of the housing benefits

Applicants with an approved application for housing benefits receive a new calculation of their benefits quarterly.
The calculation is based on the income and assets of all household members aged 18 and older over the past few months prior to the calculation.
A notification about the new calculation is sent to the applicant's email, and the calculation letter can be found in their digital mailbox on My pages island.is.

Changes to circumstances

If your household circumstances, which factor into your calculations of housing benefits, change the housing benefits amount may change. If this happens it is best to request a recalculation so that you will not end up in debt due to overpaid benefits.

Examples of changes in circumstances:

  • The number of household members increases or decreases.

The number of household members can be changed on HMS My pages.

  • A child turns 18.

The child has to log in to their HMS My pages and give their consent.

  • Income or assets change.

Housing benefits need to be recalculated.

  • The rent period ends.

HMS has to be notified if the contract will be renewed or if the application will be terminated because you are moving to another apartment.
