Should contractors have patient insurance?
All healthcare professionals who provide healthcare services shall have patient insurance. Healthcare professionals who work as employees shall be covered by their employer's patient insurance. Healthcare professionals who work independently (in a contractor) are generally responsible for their own insurance, they must have a business license for their work and have patient insurance themselves.
However, according to the patient insurance premiums, a contractor may be subject to patient insurance of units, in fact he or she is considered to be an employee of an operator rather than a self-employed person. In assessing this, it should be considered whether a healthcare professional works under the control or responsibility of another healthcare professional or in such a large team of other employees that he or she should be considered as an employee of the whole. According to the regulation, this applies especially to those who work in healthcare institutions, for example hospitals and clinics.
