The process for renting a house and applying for specific housing support
If entering the rental space specifically intended for Grindavík:
You register on the rental website with an electronic ID. Only individuals who had a registered address in Grindavík on November 10, 2023, can access the website.
You explore the properties available on the rental market. If you find a property you like, you send an inquiry to the landlord, who may be the owner of the property or someone representing them.
You can send a request to more than one property, but only one request can be sent to each property.
When the tenant and landlord reach an agreement, they formalize it with a rental agreement. It is best to make the rental agreement electronically here to expedite the process.
If the rental agreement is made on the general market:
Reach an agreement with the landlord, make a rental agreement with them, and register it electronically here to expedite the process.
Submit the rental agreement to HMS
The landlord or tenant fills out the rental agreement.
Both the landlord and the tenant need to sign the agreement.
The rental agreement is automatically registered in the Rental Registry at HMS if it is made electronically here.
Both the landlord and the tenant can appoint representatives to sign the agreement on their behalf, for example, when the landlord resides abroad.

Conditions:
Applicants and household members on the application had a registered address or temporary residence in Grindavík on November 10, 2023, and had to leave their homes based on civil protection laws.
The applicant and members of the household on application live in a rented premises and have a domicile or temporary residence there.The registered address or temporary residence must be moved to the rented apartment for all residents.
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
The applicant is a party to a rental agreement registered in the HMS Rental Registry.
Applicants and members of the household aged 18 or over have given their consent for the purpose of gathering information.
The application for specific housing support must include:
Personal identification (kennitala) numbers of the household members
Landlord's kennitala
Amount of support:
1 household member - ISK 150,000 ISK
2 members of the household - ISK 198,000 ISK
3 members of the household - 232,500 ISK
4 or more members of the household - 252,000 ISK

When will the payment be made:
The first payment for approved applications will be executed before December 15 of the current year, and it is for rentals outside Grindavíkurbær in the month of November.
