How long does it take to get a passport?


Passports manufacturing takes 6 working days, date of application is not included from the date of the application. If the passport is delivered in Commissioners district offices up in the countryside the delivery time will extend.

Released passports can be retrieved from Registers Iceland in Borgartún 21.

It is possible to apply for an expedite and can be processed on the same day, though within the opening hours of Commissioners district offices and Registers Iceland. All expedited processing must be retrieved from the Registers Iceland office in Borgartún 21. If a person other than the applicant picks up the manufactured passport, the person concerned must be empowered to do so.

Individuals residing abroad may obtain passports sent to a designated address by traceable mail.
