Child protection data

The child protection committees are in the custody of local authorities and the committees are required to submit to the relevant district archives. The National Archives of Iceland keep documents from the Icelandic Child Protection Council and the Child Protection Agency, which were institutions that used to supervise and supervise child protection work in Iceland.

When requesting data related to the intervention of child protection authorities, the names and dates of birth or the identification numbers of the parties involved, namely the child and parents or guardians, must be stated, as precise as possible, and in which municipality the intervention of the authorities took place.

In the case of care in a public household or institution by the state, information on the name of the institution and the period of stay must be available.

Many households were operated by municipal child protection committees and their data are with the local authority. This is the case for example for the RV shops operated by the City of Reykjavík.
