Live presentation on changes to the disability pension system
21st April 2024
Guðmundur Ingi Guðbrandsson, Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, will present major changes to the disability pension system on Monday 22 April at 11:00.
The meeting will be streamed live on the government of Iceland's webpage. The aim of the changes is to simplify the disability pension system, reduce income linkages and make the system more equitable.
The proposed changes include improved services, important incentives for employment and improved conditions through better and simpler payment systems – especially for those who receive only social security payments or have low other incomes. Support for people during rehabilitation is increased, co-operation between service providers is established and the focus is on preventing people from falling between schemes.
It has been urgent for a long time to revise the disability pension system, and the minister recently recommended a bill in Althingi regarding the changes.
