In 2024, the Beneficiaries of the Akureyri Hospital (Hollvinir) donated equipment worth nearly 62 million ISK to the hospital. These gifts improve the working conditions for SAk staff and enable them to enhance patient care.

“These donations are vital for our operations and demonstrate how important the hospital is to our community,” says Ragnheiður Halldórsdóttir, Medical Director and liaison to Hollvinir.

State-of-the-art technology for patients

In the autumn, Hollvinir donated two brand-new endoscopic systems to the hospital’s operating rooms, replacing older equipment that had become outdated. The value of these systems amounts to 28 million ISK and significantly strengthens the facilities' ability to provide patients with the best possible care.

Endoscopic systems are used for a variety of procedures that require only small incisions. They provide the best possible technology to treat conditions under safe and secure working conditions, further ensuring patient safety.

A camera is inserted into a body cavity along with instruments. Examples of such procedures include surgeries in the abdominal cavity, gallbladder, appendix, gynecological organs, colon, and small intestine, as well as joint arthroscopies, hysteroscopies, gastroscopies, colonoscopies, cystoscopies, and kidney stone surgeries.

A new incubator for the pediatric ward

Just before Christmas, the pediatric ward received a new state-of-the-art Babyleo incubator from Dräger as a gift. This incubator will improve the care and treatment of neonates in intensive care. It is user-friendly and easy to handle, replacing an older model that had reached the end of its service life and for which spare parts were no longer available.

Two washing machines for the endoscopy department

In October, Hollvinir provided the endoscopy department with new washing machines. Staff emphasized the importance of having proper equipment to maintain colonoscopy and gastroscopy services.

A new spirometry device for better diagnoses

Hollvinir also donated a spirometry device to the physiology laboratory, which enhances the diagnosis and treatment of patients with respiratory issues. The new device (Vyntus One) enables various types of respiratory measurements, such as spirometry, diffusion tests, lung volume measurements, and oscillometry.

The Akureyri Hospital sincerely thanks Hollvinir for their invaluable contributions and support. These donations reflect the unique collective effort of this organization within the community.

The Akureyri Hospital encourages everyone who wishes to support its operations to become a member of Hollvinir. The annual membership fee is 6,000 ISK and is collected in May via an online payment slip. The organization also accepts voluntary contributions. Together, we make great things even better.
