When an electronic application is sent to the District Commissioner's, the following process is carried out:
An application is sent to the applicant party for signature and other parties involved.
Once the parties concerned have signed the application, the District Commissioner's receive the application and assign the case a case number.
The applicant party receives an e-mail with a notification that the application has been received, along with information on the case number.
The case number can be used by the applicant and others involved in the case to submit data to the case through the Data Submit.
The District Commissioner's examine the application.
Before a decision is made or a ruling is made in a case, the District Commissioner's shall, as appropriate, have to:
Introduce the application to another party, e.g. the other parent in a family case.
Seek public comments, e.g. police and fire departments in a permitting case.
Send the cases for mediation, e.g. in connection with a dispute over custody or the legal domicile of a child.
After the District Commissioner's have examined the case and called for the documents needed to make a decision or decide on the case, the application, as appropriate, is:
Rejected - e.g. when a party cannot obtain a permit or when the District Commissioner's refuse to register a document.
Partly considered - for example, when District Commissioner's rule on cases involving contact where proposals for contact are considered by both parents.
Fully considered - e.g. by issuing a licence to operate a restaurant or by issuing a driving licence.
