On 27 November 2024, a new Regulation on the amounts of payments in the mourning leave and the payment of the mourning grant came into force.

According to Regulation No. 1452/2024, the maximum amount and minimum payments in the state of grief for parents who suffer a child loss from 1 January to 31 December 2025 are:

• The maximum amount according to Article 16(1) of the Act shall be

  800.000 ISK

  per month.

• The minimum payment under paragraph 1 of Article 16(3) of the Act is increased to

  167,441 ISK

  per month. (Parents working 25-49%)

• The minimum payment under paragraph 2 of Article 16(3) of the Act is increased to

  232.061 ISK

  . per month. (Parents working 50-100%)

According to Regulation No. 1452/2024, payments of grief support to parents who suffer a child loss from January 1 to December 31 2025 are:

• Concentrations of waste under the first sentence of Article 25(1) of the Act are increased to

  101,260 ISK

  per month. (Parents who are not in the labour market or in less than 25% of the workforce)

• Concentrations of waste under the 2nd sentence of Article 25(1) of the Act are increased to

  232,061 ISK

  per month. (Parents in full education)
