Respiratory infections. Week 5 of 2023

Cases of confirmed influenza are declining but type B diagnoses are in the vast majority. Clinical diagnoses of influenza-like illness increased slightly between weeks. COVID-19 diagnoses are increasing compared to the last two weeks and over a quarter of samples were positive in the previous week.

The Icelandic Medicines Agency has suspended the sale and prescribing of the antibiotic Staklox as a precautionary measure

The Danish Medicines Agency has reported that some patients in Denmark who received the antibiotic Dicillin (capsules) from the company Sandoz from September 2022 to January 2023 have developed infections caused by antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

The number of diagnoses of confirmed influenza was similar to the previous week. Over half of the influenza diagnoses at week 4 were of type B, a change from recent weeks.
