27th April 2023

Coastal fishing season starts next Tuesday, May 2nd.

Coastal fishing permit payment

The regulations on coastal fishing in 2022/2023 applies to the fishing.

Application process:

  • Person who is a registered fishing operator or authorised signatories for a fishing operator can apply for a coastal fishing permit through the digital application portal at Ísland.is with electronic ID.

  • The permit is paid for during the application process and you can get the permit issued immediately or choose another start date.

  • Granted permits are sent to the person concerned digital mailbox on Ísland.is.

The Directorate of Fisheries points out that it is important that parties complete the application process by pressing Next after paying for the permit, see picture. The Directorate of Fisheries advises parties to monitor whether the permit has been safely received in a digital mailbox before going fishing.

The processing of a coastal fishing permit can be delayed if official information does not show the ownership of the parties who own or operate vessels, as the Directorate of Fisheries must take those applications for special examination with the associated data collection.

You can read about coastal fishing on this page, but you can also send inquiries and messages to fiskistofa@fiskistofa.is. We are quite busy in the beginning of the coastal fishing season, and we direct people to send mail rather than call.

Inquiries about the submission of catch information should be sent to the email address: afladagbok@fiskistofa.is.
