Applications will be made through an application portal and regulation on coastal fishing as well as regulation on (1.) amendment to the Coastal Fishing Regulation apply to the fishing.

Main changes

  • The application deadline for a coastal fishing permit is 22nd of April each year, applications cannot be submitted after that time.

  • One individual must own, directly or indirectly through a legal entity, more than 50 % of the vessel.

  • The party who owns more than 50% of the vessel must be registered on the vessel and on board the vessel during each fishing trip.

Note

  • Ownership of a vessel is determined by registration in the Icelandic Transport Authority's ship directory.

  • Ownership of a legal entity is based on the registration of the beneficial owner at the Iceland Revenue and Customs corporate register.

  • Given how late the amendment to the regulation was issued, it will be possible to apply for a coastal fishing permit for this coastal fishing season even if conditions for ownership and seaworthiness are not met.

  • The permit will be granted when the conditions have been met.

The agency's employees are under a lot of pressure and we therefore direct parties to send an email to fiskistofa@fiskistofa.is for matters concerning coastal fishing.
