Status of coastal fishing applications
The staff of the Directorate of Fisheries have been very busy responding to the number of messages received regarding coastal fishing.
Not all messages have been answered by the end of the last working day before the Easter break. An error occurred in the application system and therefore some applications or payments have not gone through, but improvements are being made. We ask parties who have been affected by this to apply again over Easter and if the application does still not go through, send an email to fiskistofa@fiskistofa.is so that the application can be processed.
Note
Applications must be submitted before midnight on 22nd of April, even if vessel does not meet all the requirements.
If all requirements are met, the permit is issued and sent to applicant's digital mailbox on island.is.
The party who is the majority owner of vessel, with a minimum of 50.01% ownership, must be on board each fishing trip.
Changes to owner/operator and sea area
Changes to owner/vessel operator at the Icelandic Transport Authority are not automatically updated in the Directorate of Fisheries ship register.
The vessel will therefore not appear under "my vessel" on island.is
Information about change of ownership / vessel operator must be sent before 12:00 on Tuesday, 22nd of April, so that registration at the Directorate of Fisheries can be updated.
The registration of the majority owner of a ship and seaworthiness is automatically updated in the application system after the Icelandic Transport Authority and the Iceland Revenue and Customs have updated the information
We ask applicants to show patience and understanding, and we also ask that parties direct questions and messages to the email address fiskistofa@fiskistofa.is as heavy phone traffic delays all processing.
