Coastal fishing permit

The application deadline is midnight on 22nd of April and it will not be possible to apply after the application deadline.

The coastal fishing season starts on Tuesday, 5th of May and regulation on coastal fishing applies to the fishing as well as regulation on the (1st) amendment to the regulation.

Practical information about the application process:

  • Application for coastal fishing permit is made through a digital application system on Ísland.is.

  • Person who is a registered owner or authorised signator can apply for the permit using electronic ID.

  • The start date of coastal fishing can be selected.

  • The permit is paid for during the application process and it is important to complete the application process by clicking continue after payment has been made.

  • Upon entry into force, the permit is sent to the applicant's mailbox on Ísland.is.

  • Processing permit applications may be delayed if the Directorate of Fisheries lacks information about vessel owners and vessel operators.

  • An application can be made even if the vessel does not have a seaworthiness certificate, but permit is granted when the ship receives the seaworthiness certificate and all other conditions have been met.

Further information about the fishing can be found on the Directorate of Fisheries website in the article about coastal fishing.

The agency's employees are under a lot of pressure at the beginning of the season and we therefore direct parties to send an email to fiskistofa@fiskistofa.is for matters concerning coastal fishing rather than calling.

Inquiries about submitting catch information should be sent to the email address afladagbok@fiskistofa.is.
