Iceland Health covers the cost of necessary orthodontics for children and young people.

The condition is that the service is provided by an orthodontic specialist and the straightening is done with fixed appliances (braces). It is also a condition that treatment with fixed appliances begins before the age of 21 and that the person has not previously received a subsidy for orthodontics.

A grant of ISK 460,000 is provided if fixed appliances are placed on at least 10 adult teeth in each palate but ISK 310,000. if fixed appliances are only placed in one palate.

The dentist is responsible for sending the application to Iceland Health. The grant goes to the orthodontist who will reduce your bill by that amount until the grant amount is paid in full here.
