The Identification App is an easy, convenient and secure way to identify yourself on the web and perform validated electronic signatures. The app can be used anywhere in the world, regardless of phone number.

The The Identification App enables you to activate electronic IDs by self-registration - anywhere in the world.

The self-registration is carried out using the biometric information in a passport and the person must:

• Have reached the age of 13. (One guardian must sign an application for 13-17 year olds - only in Icelandic).

• Have a smartphone with NFC support.

• Have a valid Icelandic passport.

You download the Identification app from the App Store or Play Store and then activate electronic IDs with biometric identifiers on your phone or smart device. After you have created an account, you can use the Identification app to identify yourself and sign electronic documents.

Do I need to have an Icelandic phone number?

No, The authentication app is only dependent on the device you install the app in, not the SIM card itself. You only need to be connected to the internet to use the app.

Why are there two PIN numbers in the app?

When you register, you are asked to select two PINs.

• PIN1 is 4-12 digits and is used for identification e.g. to log in to an online bank or Ísland.is

• PIN2 is 5-12 digits and is used for electronic signatures, e.g. when signing a loan.
