General
To import and sell pyrotechnic articles in wholesale, a licence from the police chief is required. The same licence includes both import and wholesale. If pyrotechnic articles are to be sold in retail, a different licence is required.
The permit is not granted to individuals.
Conditions
The applicant is a company or an association with a VAT number.
The responsible person must be identified who has reached the age of 18 years.
Storage for fireworks meets the requirements of the Icelandic Civil engineering agency according to the fire department.
Pay for a permit
The fee for a new permit is ISK 34,000 and the fee for renewal is ISK 6,500.

A receipt must be sent to the e-mail address and included in the explanation of who is paying.
Undue duty
The police chief must approve the goods account before the delivery of fireworks is released from customs. An application for the police chief's endorsement on the goods account is made separately.
When fireworks are dispatched at the customs, the customs officer sends a notification to the sheriff of the capital area.
The importer must then present a permit to import to the customs authorities.
Send a product bill
The importer sends the capital area police chief a product invoice. It must include:
types of fireworks
quantity of individual species, size and composition.
Specially, they should be specified for those fireworks which are only allowed to be used for fireworks displays and for fireworks which are only used for theatre productions, film productions and the like.
It should also be mentioned specifically in the case of fireworks that have not been imported before.
with a detailed breakdown on a separate form provided by the Commissioner of the Customs at least 48 hours before the customs clearance of the goods.

Only fireworks that are
have been type-approved by the Consumer Agency,
bear the CE marking,
are manufactured according to certain standards. The standards are set out in Articles 26 and 27 of the Fireworks Regulation.
