Periodic training of professional drivers - fines and detention

19th November 2024

From 1 December, police will appeal against drivers who have not completed the required periodic training of a professional driver. They can expect fines. It can also be expected that the vehicle will be grounded until a driver who meets the conditions takes over driving. This is stated in a notice from the police.

In Article 58, paragraph 10 of the Road Traffic Act no. 77/2019, it is stipulated that drivers who drive vehicles in categories C1, C, D1 and D for the purposes of commercial passenger and cargo transportation shall undergo periodic training every five years. The measures in question are planned by police forces in West, South and North East Iceland, which are responsible for special checks on commercial vehicles.
