Due to numerous inquiries from the residents of Grindavík, regarding the possible transport of their belongings out of the area, Natural catastrophe insurance of Iceland would like to point out to the residents of Grindavík that all the items from the belongings that have been damaged in the event must be kept safe. It should be pointed out that Iceland's Natural Disaster Insurance does not require that contents be moved out of the area and their owners do not lose their right to compensation if contents are left in Grindavík and suffer direct damage as a result of the loss event.
Natural catastrophe insurance of Iceland also does not have issue with contents being moved out of the area, although there may have been some damage to it already, but it is best to report damage to contents immediately, if there is damage to it and the owners intend to retrieve their contents partially or entirely out of the danger zone. It is best if damaged items are left in houses in Grindavík, or kept in another way, so that they are accessible for inspection by assessors when the damage assessment is possible. It is also best that Grindvíkingar take pictures of the contents that has been damaged, in order to confirm the damage. NTI would like to reiterate that it is not allowed to dispose of damaged items, as this will prevent compensation being paid for them.
The insured's own risk for contents/liquid assets is ISK. 200,000.-
