About HSU

The Healthcare Institution of South Iceland (HSU) provides healthcare services, hospital services and elderly care in the form of nursing and residential facilities. The service area extends from Þorlákshöfn in the west to Höfn in the east.

The Healthcare Institution of South Iceland operates:

  • 9 health clinics at 10 establishments

  • 4 nursing homes

  • Hospital in Selfoss

  • Hospital in Vestmannaeyjar

  • Ambulance in the area

24 hour emergency ward is in Selfoss. All clinics have a doctor on call for emergencies.

The role of HSU is to shape, develop and implement health services in the area and secure the inhabitants of South Iceland, and other users, equal access to the best possible health services available at each time.
