Restricted issuance of residence permit cards - update
18th November 2022
No longer necessary to present a plane ticket to get a residence permit card.
According to latest information from the Directorate's supplier, a new delivery of residence permit cards will arrive sooner than expected.
The Directorate of Immigration must still limit the issuance of residence cards and applicants will continue to receive a letter confirming the issuance of a residence permit, with information on the period of validity and employment rights.
However, those who need a card to travel abroad no longer need to send the Directorate travel documentation in confirmation for a residence permit card to be issued. Please send a request for a card to utl@utl.is.
Note: In order to issue a residence permit card, the Directorate must have a photo of the applicant that is not older than six months. Therefore the applicant might need to have his picture taken if a residence card is requested for traveling. You can either have a photo appointment at the Directorate of Immigration or at district commissioners outside the capital area. You need to book an appointment at the Directorate online: Directorate of Immigration | Noona. For an appointment at district commissioners offices you need to contact them by phone. Remember to bring a passport to confirm your identiy.
Any further changes will be announced on the Directorate's website.
