Prevention Day was celebrated for the 19th time this year and has been extended to the Prevention Month of October. Prevention is always just as important, but many have emphasised it more in October. We want to help children and young people experience safety and well-being in their community. If they feel good, they are doing well, but for that, they need the whole community's support. In collaboration with the Directorate of Health, the Health-Promoting Society and the Prevention Day team are hosting this symposium. As part of the effort, support materials have been developed for municipalities, offering easy access to resources on youth well-being and prevention strategies. These materials include a wealth of evidence-based education and information that can be invaluable for those working with children. Rather than reinventing the wheel, we aim to build on proven methods that are known to work.
The Directorate of Health leads the management of Prevention Day with several key partners including the Office of the President of Iceland, the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police, the Association of Local Authorities in Iceland, the City of Reykjavík, Rannsóknir & Greining, Planet Youth, the National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland, the Icelandic Youth Association, Samfés, the Association of NGOs in Prevention, the Icelandic Boy and Girl Scout Association, and the Home and School organisation.
Representatives of the current parliamentary parties have been invited to a panel discussion that will take place at the symposium at 11:40, moderated by Elín Hirst.
