Respiratory tract infections. Week 45 of 2023

A recent review of the frequency of respiratory infections and hospitalizations this winter compares Iceland to the situation in Europe.
Twelve patients had documented influenza at week 45. There was an increase in the number of individuals admitted to Landspítali University Hospital with respiratory virus infections, mostly due to COVID-19 or 32. The largest increase in admissions due to COVID-19 occurred in the age group 65 years and older. Three patients with RSV, all aged 5 years, were hospitalized at Landspítali University Hospital. The Chief Epidemiologist encourages people to follow the recommendations on respiratory infections.
