The conference forms part of the Erasmus+ collaborative project SHE4AHA (Schools for Health in Europe 4 Active and Healthy Ageing). It will take place on Thursday, 27 February from 9 AM to 3 PM, at the Hilton Reykjavík Nordica, and will also be available via streaming.
What is the SHE4AHA project?
SHE4AHA is a collaborative project involving Iceland, Denmark, Portugal, Slovenia, and France. Participants in the project serve as national contact persons for the health-promoting schools approach in the aforementioned countries. The initiative is based on previously published material from the Schools for Health in Europe Network Foundation (SHE), aiming to simplify and enhance schools' access to support materials and tools related to health promotion. The checklists for Health-Promoting Primary Schools, provided by the Directorate of Health, were among the support materials utilised in the project.
The Health Promoting Primary Schools approach is designed to assist schools in systematically promoting health within their operations. This entails creating a school environment that fosters the mental, physical, and social health and well-being of students and staff, in collaboration with families and the local community. A total of 15 schools participated in the SHE4AHA project, including three schools from Iceland: Hraunvallaskóli, Fossvogsskóli, and Djúpavogsskóli.
Collaboration - Communication - Co-creation
At the conference, a presentation will showcase newly updated checklists for Health-Promoting Primary Schools, along with the establishment of connections to the Sustainable Development Goals and the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Among other topics, the integration of projects within schools will be discussed, including the introduction of the Health-Promoting Class, a new initiative under the auspices of the Directorate of Health. Furthermore, the Icelandic schools involved in the SHE4AHA project will share their focuses and ongoing developments within the programme. Emphasis will be placed on fostering a growth mindset, networking, social skills, playtime, morning snacks, vegetable cultivation, and the integration of slowness and health promotion.
There will also be presentations from UNICEF in Iceland (Rights Schools - Convention on the Rights of the Child), the United Nations Association (UNESCO Schools - SDGs), and Landvernd – the Icelandic Environment Association (Green Flag).

The conference is open to everyone, and participation is free of charge. It is essential to register for both on-site attendance and streaming.
