Application for Atlantic tuna fishing permit are now open
The advertisement is published in accordance with provisions of regulation on the 3rd amendment to the regulation on fishing for East Atlantic bluefin tuna. Application deadline is 10th of March and applications should be sent to fiskistofa@fiskistofa.is

The permit grants permission to engage in longline fishing during the period 1st of August to 31st of December in the fishing area north of 42°00.00´N between 10°00.00´W and 45°00.00´W. Icelandic licensees are authorized to catch 200 tons of Atlantic tuna.
Conditions
Vessel must have a general fishing permit.
Vessel must be at least 500 gross tons in size.
Vessel must have adequate equipment for catching and handling of Atlantic tuna catches.
The application must state
A plan for when fishing will take place.
Description of vessel equipment, particularly processing and freezing capacity..
Landing ports.
Information on how catch will be allocated.
Information on previous tuna fishing experience.
Note
A maximum of three permits will be issued in 2025.
The Directorate of Fisheries reserves the right to reject applications if there is a possibility that vessel in question is in some way unsuitable or underprepared for fishing in terms of safety or equipment.
In accordance with ICCAT requirements, vessels with permit to fish for Atlantic tuna must have an inspector from the Directorate of Fisheries on board.
