The permit grants permission to engage in longline fishing during the period 1st of August to 31st of December in the fishing area north of 42°00.00´N between 10°00.00´W and 45°00.00´W. Icelandic licensees are authorized to catch 200 tons of Atlantic tuna.

Conditions

• Vessel must have a general fishing permit.

• Vessel must be at least 500 gross tons in size.

• Vessel must have adequate equipment for catching and handling of Atlantic tuna catches.

The application must state

• A plan for when fishing will take place.

• Description of vessel equipment, particularly processing and freezing capacity..

• Landing ports.

• Information on how catch will be allocated.

• Information on previous tuna fishing experience.

Note

• A maximum of three permits will be issued in 2025.

• The Directorate of Fisheries reserves the right to reject applications if there is a possibility that vessel in question is in some way unsuitable or underprepared for fishing in terms of safety or equipment.

• In accordance with ICCAT requirements, vessels with permit to fish for Atlantic tuna must have an inspector from the Directorate of Fisheries on board.
