Application for full licences now digital
20th July 2021
Applications for a final driving licence on Iceland.is is part of the process of digitising applications for driving licences.
Now an important step has been taken in digitalising the driving learning process, as it is now possible to apply for a full driving licence on Iceland.is and driving instructors can complete their driving evaluations digitally.
In the process, information from the National Commissioner of Police database and the National Registry is retrieved in order for all data to be accessible in one place, and the information entered by the applicant is automatically sent into the Driving Licence Registry. With experience gained in this process, the introduction of further application processes for driving licences could be accelerated, including temporary driving licence applications.
The project is the first to make use of the new payment solution from Iceland.is which increased the scope and number of stakeholders. The project required collaboration of the Icelandic Transportation Agency, the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police, The District Commissioners and others connected to a new payment solution, e.g. the Greiðslumiðlun, The Financial Management Authority and Advania, which was both a challenge and an incentive.
The application is automated and the applicant does not need to go to the sheriff's office unless it is required to submit a medical certificate (aim for automation also).
Time-saving for applicants and general paper savings, since the application form is now in digital form.
Clear processes where there is coordination in the dissemination of information.
