The application process for driving studies and first driving licence is now digital
All processes concerning driving students, driving instructors and driving schools for applications for driving studies have now been digitised and paper applications have now largely ceased. This simplifies and makes the processes more efficient, reduces the waiting time at the District Commissioners offices and reduces the number of trips that applicants often have to travel a long distance to the District Commissioners office on these occasions.
The following services are specified:
Driving students:
Be able to apply to begin driving studies at Ísland.is.
Be able to follow the progress of driving studies on Mínar síður .
Get Digital Driver's License when they have passed a practical test.
Are able to apply for full drivers licence after 12 months and after driving assessment
Driving instructors:
Digitally verify driving time, driving assessment and that the student is ready for practice driving.
Driving schools:
Digitally confirm that the student has completed a driving school. 1.2 and 3.
Training instructors:
Retrieving digital requests for training drive with the instructor
nce a digital application for a study authorisation has been made, student drivers must come in person to the District Commissioner office and submit a photo and sign it.
Next steps for digital services:
Councillors can retrieve a photo and signature from their passport before issuing a driving licence.
Preparation with the Icelandic Transportation Authority for electronic examination in theoretical driving tests.
