future of government awards

Digital Iceland nominated for Future of Government Awards

Digital Iceland has been nominated in two categories at the international Future of Government Awards. These awards are presented annually to governments, technology teams, and individuals working to improve public services by developing and implementing digital solutions. In recent years, Digital Iceland has received numerous nominations and awards, both domestically and internationally, for various collaborative projects in digital development. Iceland ranks 5th in the world among UN member states in digital services and infrastructure (eGDI).

Future of Government Awards is awarded in five categories and Digital Iceland receives its first nominations in two; Digital Team of the Year where it looks at smaller teams that have had extensive impact in the digital transformation of the last two years, and Open Source Creation Award where the criterion is open source software that has proven its value and the possibility for governments in other countries to reuse it.

Most nations around the world are now striving to improve public services through digital solutions and speed up various processes, streamline operations, and increase positive environmental impact. Technological solutions enable public sector entities to do more for less, and better meet the needs of the citizens they serve.

The Future of Government awards focus on teams and leaders who have excelled in these areas. The awards committees are made up of international experts and it is clear that competition is fierce.

The sponsors of the awards are the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the consultancy firm Public Digital, and AWS. The prize was first awarded in 2022.

Users can then create an access key in the app settings, which will be stored on the user’s device, and can subsequently open links from the app to the website using the phone’s fingerprint reader or eye reader instead of electronic ID.
