Kiwanis, Oddfellow and Líkn gave a yellowing meter
A generous gift
Kiwanis Club Helgafell, Kvenfélag Lík, Oddfellow Rbst. No. 3 Vilborg and Oddfellow St. No. 4, Herjólfur. delivered a measurement of yellow in infants to the South Iceland Healthcare Centre in the Westman Islands today. A generous gift worth 1.5 million.
These tests are important to determine if jaundice is developing and to treat it much earlier than otherwise. The yellow from the baby''s skin i.e. measures how much yellow the baby has.
In the Westman Islands the old yellow fever marker was outdated, so a blood test was needed to assess jaundice in children. This is therefore a welcome gift so that reliable results can be obtained quickly and reliably.
The yellowing device is placed on the child's skin where light is shot five times and the results of the average test are immediately available. The monitors are also used in the NICU at Landspítali and other healthcare institutions.
The companies that provided the meter have in the past been invaluable sponsors of the HSU and their contributions will be much appreciated of late.
