Collaborative project on development in fisheries surveillance
For the past two years, the Directorate of Fisheries has led a project in development in fisheries surveillance, funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers.
The project is divided into four parts:
automation of catch registration
remote monitoring of fishing
risk assessment and risk analysis
sharing of various information between countries.
Such international cooperation is extremely important for the Directorate of Fisheries, as the organization gets the opportunity to share knowledge as well as learn from the success of other nations. In addition to Iceland, the project was attended by representatives from Faroe Islands, Denmark, Great Britain, Greenland, Canada and Norway.
The final meeting of the group was held in Hafnarfjörður last month, but despite the fact that the project is now over, the representatives of the countries will continue to have an active conversation about these subjects.
