The Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs is responsible for information technology, digital transformation and the data of the Icelandic government and is now looking for a strong and ambitious Chief Data Officer. The work is carried out by Digital Iceland, a unit within the Ministry, which works with public entities to promote digital services to the public and to simplify people’s lives. The Ministry is looking for a driven person who can easily get people with excellent people skills.

Government agencies have a wide variety of data and there are many opportunities for better utilization of data. The role of the Chief Data Officer is to lead the practical journey to utilize the data of state entities concretely and strategically to promote improved and value-added services, and data-driven decision-making and to lay the foundation for the use of artificial intelligence.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Enforce Iceland’s data policy and develop a comprehensive action plan in line with it

  • Close and indicative cooperation with governments on increased data exploitation and organizational structure

  • Promote state-of-the-art innovation through data exploitation and use of state-of-the-art technology solutions

  • Policy making and design of the State Data Communications Network

  • Mold and develop standardized data architecture and criteria for data quality and state data infrastructure

  • To map and communicate oversite of data, data storage, and data models and to promote consistency and interoperability between different public sector systems

  • Leading reforms to maximize value and use of data for efficient operations and improved services

Skills requirements

  • University education useful for work such as computer science, data science, engineering

  • Prospective and innovative data management and the use of artificial intelligence

  • Experience in developing and implementing data management policies and standards option

  • Excellent communication skills and experience in bringing different parties together to succeed

  • Skills in data quality management and metadata to ensure reliability

  • Knowledge of designing secure and consistent data architectures

  • Good ability to speak Icelandic and English in speech and writing

Pay according to the current wage agreement concluded by the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs and the Association of University-qualified employees of the Administrative Board.

The application must be accompanied by a detailed CV and a letter of introduction explaining the reason for the application and justifying the applicant's competence for the job.

It is desirable that the applicant can start work as soon as possible.
