Self-employed healthcare workers' health insurance will be transferred to the Iceland Health
According to the new Act on Patient Insurance No. 47/2024, the patient insurance of self-employed healthcare professionals is transferred from insurance companies to the Icelandic Health. The change applies to damages that occur on and after 1 January 2025.

The amount of the premium for self-employed healthcare professionals will be decided by the Minister of Health in a regulation. A draft of such a regulation, along with supporting documents explaining the estimated levy of the premium, is now included in the government consultation, see. The draft regulation will be in the consultation portal until 6 December 2024 and during that period everyone can contribute comments or opinions.
