Data protection information

When applying for legal aid, the information and documents provided by the applicant are processed.

The information will be used to see whether the applicant meets the requirements for legal aid in a dispute in a court case before an Icelandic court. Information is processed on the basis of the Act on Civil Procedure.

  • The Ministry of Justice and the Legal Aid Committee will have access to the information and documents accompanying the application. They may not pass them on or use them for other purposes.

  • Information and data will be stored in accordance with the Public Archives Act. The utmost security is maintained in the storage of the data to ensure that the information is not passed on to an unauthorised person, is not altered, destroyed, or lost.

  • It should be kept in mind that it is not possible to submit an electronic application unless all the required documents are submitted. Applications may always be submitted on paper to the Ministry of Justice.
