Filing an infringement complaint

The person who was violated submits the complaint. Parents or guardians make appeals on behalf of their children.

To file a complaint, you must attend a police station and report. To report and file a complaint with the police is called the complaints office.

Time in the processing of appeals

It is recommended to request an appointment at the complaints office. If you show up at a police station without an appointment, it is not possible to ensure that it is possible to take a statement from you.

Important points

When you request a time in the complaints office, it is good to have the answers to these questions ready:

Data supporting the appeal

When a request for a time in the complaints processing is sent, it is good that as many information as possible is included. These are data that the person concerned has in their possession and can shed light on the matter. These can be written data, photos, videos or other.

Time in the processing of appeals

When a request has been made for a time, the police contacts the person and a time is offered. The police try to meet everyone regarding the timing, but unfortunately it is not always possible. If it is not possible, the time is given as free and the person is asked to confirm it.

When an individual shows up at the appeals office, the subject matter of the appeal is reviewed. A report is taken by the complainant. For example, questions are asked about what happened and when. The interview can be from 10 minutes to more than 10 hours, depending on the case at any given time.

After the police receive a complaint, the case is examined and the next steps are decided. Sometimes a report is taken by others who are connected to the case.

The study begins

In many cases, an investigation is initiated by the police. In the course of investigation of a criminal case, investigations are typically conducted:

• Reporting of the defendant and witnesses, including victims.

• Acquisition of other necessary evidence.

The study ends

After investigation, the case is sent to the accuser for examination. Then one of the following happens:

Study terminated

Police may terminate an investigation if there is no basis for continuing it. Reasons may be:

• It turns out that the complaint has not been substantiated.

• The violation is minor and it is predictable that the investigation will result in an unreasonably high amount of effort and costs.

The complaint dismissed

If the police do not investigate the case, this means that the appeal is dismissed. The police must notify the complainant of the dismissal of the appeal and it is possible to ask for the police to give reasons for that decision. The decision to dismiss the appeal can be appealed to the State Prosecutor. The deadline for this is one month.
