Retraining of professional drivers
Due to changes in the curriculum for the provisional training for professional drivers
Changes are not retroactive to the certificates in force.
Those with attitional driving rights and the number 95 require consideration of this change before the next renewal.
Example: A driver completed all courses and renewed their license in 2023. The same driver does not need to consider retraining courses until the next renewal in 2028.
Professional drivers driving cars in categories C, C1, D and D1 must complete refresher courses within the last five years before renewal to receive the code 95 in their licence. The drivers of large vehicles are responsible for a great deal, but the goal of the courses is to promote professional drivers as a profession and increase road safety. The 95 code allows drivers to work driving within the EEA region.
Who needs retraining?
All drivers with C1, D1 and D1 licenses who wish to maintain their licenses. If no courses are displayed, no courses are valid or have not been registered by the course holders.
Who doesn’t need retraining?
Those who use their rights solely for driving for their own personal benefit.
Taxi drivers (those who drive only cars in category B).
Drivers driving ambulances or rescue teams cars.

Cost
The cost of each course can vary between courses. Medical certificates and new certificates must also be paid for when renewing them. It is pointed out that most of the trade unions subsidise the cost of study fees.
Renewal of the licence
It is important to go to the District Commissioner and renew the certificate after the courses are completed. This does not happen automatically. When renewing, a medical certificate must always be submitted.
If more than two years have passed since the licence expired, you must undergo a driving test at Frumherji.
Further information can be obtained by sending an email to the e-mail address and from the course participants.
