Parents' right to access information about their children
Parents have the right to access information about their children.
For example, it is the principle that all information recorded in electronic information systems should be disclosed to parents. However, this access for parents may be restricted, for example, if the public or private interests of others prevail.
The controller must always evaluate each time whether and to which data access is restricted and this evaluation can be subject to review by the Data Protection Authority if a complaint is received about the subject matter.
A parent who does not have custody of a child has the right to have access to written data about the child from schools and preschools.
The parent also has the right to receive oral information about the child from other parties who are handling its case, such as hospitals, health care and social institutions, social welfare committees, child protection committees and the police.
This does not include the right to receive information on the interests of the custodian parent.
