Last week, the EUROCALL 2023 International Conference took place in Iceland. The conference was held in collaboration with the Vigdís Finnbogadóttir Institute for Foreign Languages, the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies and the Sorbonne University in Paris. The conference was held in Veröld – Vigdís House and the theme of the conference was technically supported study and teaching of diverse languages.
Júlía G. Hreinsdóttir, the director of professional teaching at the Centre for Communication, was one of the key lecturers at EUROCALL 2023. Her talk, The history of sign language and the development of sign language teaching in Iceland, went over very well and a good voice was made for her work both by the organisers and the participants of the conference. Árný Guðmudsdóttir and Iðunn Ása Óladóttir sign language interpreters at the Centre for Communication performed individually when interpreting into English.
Árný Guðmundsdóttir and Hólmfríður Þóroddsdóttir, staff at SHH, had a fancy poster presentation at the conference, presenting both SignWiki and the preservation of the SHH's symbolic cultural heritage.
The Centre for Communication also lent the work by Júlíus Birgi Jóhannesson to the conference.
